Super App
This is terrific app. I’ve used it off and on as needed for many years now. Incorporated srt files that I’ve downloaded, touched up or adjusted or shifted subs. It’s very intuitive after a few minutes of use. And dedicated just to subs, so perfect light weight app to learn. Overwhelming number of fonts to choose from, and very good control of font size, colors, outlines, offsets. Hint, For writing out, I specify h264 and the max 80000 bitrate. (The default smart option doesn’t seem to be a good choice.) Another hint, it’s useful to know Mac keyboard options for selecting all or ranges of fonts to move as a group. I’ve used it on both Intel and M4 Mac and it works just fine as expected.
Better than YouTube's
'm thrilled to have found this app! It took me a long time to find something better than YouTube's own subtitle editor that supports Mac. As someone who is deaf, this app is essential for adding subtitles to my YouTube videos. I've already used it over 10 times and am quite satisfied. A few improvements I'd suggest for the app: moving the text box from the top left corner to the bottom right near the timeline, and ensuring that the text box is blank when I click 'Add Subtitles' so I don't have to delete 'My Subtitles' each time. It would also be great if I could start typing immediately after clicking 'Add Subtitles'. Thank you so much for creating this app!
RIP OFF!
I thought this would at least be able to shift times on the subtitles. Can't do it. I'm out ten bucks. Don't waste your money on Apps.
Great App for Subtitles
This was my first foray into editing subtitles, and while it's a little challenging getting started, once you get the hang of it, it's fairly easy to use. Time consuming work, though. The Program works well, and allows me to add subs. Five stars!
8 Hours in and not complaining
I've been doing a fast and dirty project to help a friend time captions for a live-stream of a video. I'm used to iMovie and this feels very similar. I am Where
Easy to use
I have no background in video editing but find this application very useful and easy to use. I tried only a couple of other applications but this one works best for me. Editing the text for subtitles is reliable and not very different from other word-processing tools (it's just like Notepad). It's a minor shortcoming that the window for text editing is a bit small (but still works reliably). You may feel frustrated with a huge watermark that come in with the LITE version but it's worth to upgrade to a full version.
GREAT PROGRAM
This is a great program that I’m using for something it was not created for. I’m camera blocking musical performances which I then share with my associate director who creates the camera shot sheet cards for the camera operators. The one huge issue is being able to see where the curser is in the "My Subtitle" window. It appears as a black over a slightly less black background. If that could be corrected, it would great. It takes wasted time to figure out where the curser is. Also, if writing and editing text could be done in the text window in the video, that would be even better!

I paid a company to Caption a video. Needed to make a few slight edits. So nice.

Needs fixes
The interface for entering text is too small. Why does adding a bit of text blow up the size of my video from 150mb to 700mb? Please add an edit capability to trim bits off.
Limited for the price
I add subtitles to videos for work, and typically use the youtube subtitle editor but wanted to find a different (easier) method. Figured I'd spend the cash to get an app that worked, but so far I am disappointed. The app does work for basic editing, and there are a lot of options to edit the look and feel of the subtitles, which is great. The timeline editor is also great, especially coming from editing subtitles on Youtube. There are many issues that make this app unusable for me. As other people mentioned, there are no instructions for the app, which is made worse by the fact the visual design of the app doesn't resemble a typical MacOS application (I'm no design nerd, but this app looks... not great. There are no visual customization options as far as I can tell). Additionally, many default MacOS keyboard shortcuts do not work as you would expect -- Cmd+O does not open a video, Cmd+I does not import. And be sure to avoid clicking away from the subtitle box while you're editing or else you might hit the delete key and delete the entire subtitle, not just th text in the subtitle box. The box to enter subtitles for a particular section of video is tiny, which makes editing subtitles difficult. The "Clear Subtitle" (singular) button clears ALL subtitles, not just the selected one. Only used the app for 30 minutes before giving up. This app may be good for simple editing jobs, but I'm having a difficult time getting accustomed to the workflow. Perhaps others will have better luck, but I feel like I wasted my money.
Good for very basic subtitles
You can only have one box of subtitles. You can't add another box. You can move the box anywhere you want. The subtitles can be all to the left, centered or right. But each line will be the same, not some centered, some left etc. The subtitles can only be on the video and not beyond, ex iphone videoing vertically there is black space around the video. the subtitles are only on the video, not the surrounding black space. You can have the subtitles as long as you want on the video. ex- i have my info throughout the entire video for Facebook. Wish it could do more but does the basic easily.

A first try this software seem to be working well for me.
Way better than Premiere Pro
There are still a few kinks that need to be ironed out, but overall functionality is so much better than Premiere. It's definitely easy to use.
Good supplement to iMovie
If you, like me, are frustrated by the limited options available in iMovie for adding closed captions, this is a nice supplement that lets you control font, size, and placement of the caption. It works just about the same way as iMovie’s built-in titling function. The one thing I wish the program could do would be to allow us to make the background color behind the text translucent so part of the video image shows through.I also wish I could click on the text in the preview window to edit it, but you get used to doing your edits in the upper left window fairly quickly. With captions being so important on Facebook, this is a valuable tool for video content creators who want to make use of social media to show off their work.
Great app - easiest and cleanest to use!
From everything that I found, this one was the most intuitive and quick to use. A couple of things that would help would be: a) Providing more keyboard shortcuts, for example to change the time length of a subtitle b) The cursor when editing subtitle text is nearly invisible c) Automatic wrapping on subtitle based on width of video. Otherwise great great application!

Despite some clunkiness to how the interface works, the program operates as advertised. It has been stable and gives me just what I need it to.

Just short of amazing
GREAT for subtitling with more freedom than iMovie, but unfortunately I can’t ever seem to relaunch a project once I save/exit. This means I end up leaving the video/program up through the duration of project development, which is certainly not ideal. Could be user error - and I continue to use the app knowing I can’t exit until I’m done - so I still recommend giving at shot!
Would be perfect with a few mor features.
This program is good. What would be make it great is to add keyboard shortcuts for: standard playback controls (jkl;), mark in/out, go to in/out, move selected subtitle to timeline indicator, zoom timeline in and out. Then the obvious thing would be the ability to edit the subtitles on screen rather than just in the subtitle editor field.
Almost perfect!
This really helps making subtitles less tedious! Thank you so much for this program! I use it all the time! I just wish you could choose “select all”. that’s not available in this app. It would be useful if ALL subtitles needed to be moved by an exact amount. But other than that, it’s great!
Great app - well worth the price
I needed to add captioning to some video’s for a presentation our team is doing and after searching available options I tried the free version - worked great - just adds a watermark to export! So I found this to be well worth $10. It has worked well - especially exporting to Mpeg2. No ads or junk - clean app, no crashes. Running on a 2007 iMac 20” with 6MB RAM, SSD drive and MacOS 10.11.6

More flexibility editing the text box
It would be nice to be able to edit the size of the text box. When using the default, letters like q,g,y,p,j get cut off at the bottom. In order to avoid that, you’ll have to do a hard break by pressing the return button at the end of your sentence.
This app doesn’t work with OS 10.13.1
This is a waste of money and time. It’s bogging down my iMac so much that everything freezes. (5K Imac with 32GB of RAM) Attempting to drag subtitles uses 355% of CPU.
not intuitive, no YouTube instructions
I tried to add text to a movie clip. I was not able to edit the template text in 3 minutes. I dont know how to move forward because there are no instructions how to use it. I expected a video on YouTube but searching for “Subtitle Edit Pro”, I was not able to find clear instructions that matched my screen. It is frustrating when there are no basic instructions or intro video clip to get a jump start available

This app makes the work of creating subtitle files quick and easy. There is a mild learning curve, but once you get past that - and you’ll be through it after your first video - it gets really easy to use.
Absolutely Wonderful App!
My name is Jess and I run an independent horror company called Ghoulish Grin Films. When Amazon decided to get rid of CreateSpace for their Amazon Video creators and started their own upload center, they required subtitles. This app allows you to put your movie file and create your own subtitles, then create the srt file for it. And it works perfectly. You can also use those subtitles for your YouTube uploads as well. Grab this app if you’re an indie filmmaker that puts content online. It’s a wonderful tool!
Useful
Needed a way to “burn in” subtitles and this is the simplest solution. Sure there are some “quirks” (the chosen default font, the text size is too large, etc) but after you figure out what’s going on, it’s a very useful and effective way to tidy up subs and output them effectively. It’s not pretty but it works and at the end of the day, if using this tool saves me thousands of dollars instead of going to a CC or post-house, it’s a tenner well spent!
Works well, easy interface, best of the subtitle programs
If what you want is to subitle a video (as in write the subtitles yourself, not importat from a file) this is a great option. I’ve tried three others and it’s the only one I found usable. It’s not perfect - getting formatting right takes a little work and I had it crash once when memory was low. But, it does the job. If interested give the trial version a spin (leaves a watermark) and then, if it you like it, get the full version.
